I moved from Vacaville to Pleasanton in January, in order to be closer to my granddaughter, who lives in Dublin. We bought a home in Vineyard Estates Mobile Home Park, which is just south of Shadow Cliffs.
I retired from coaching cross country at Berkeley High School in 1999.
Amador Valley High School Cross Country
The Amador Valley cross country team completed its annual time trial today on the Shadow Cliffs 3k course. It was just us this year, but we were joined by numerous parents and alumni who came to support the team. The team didn't disappoint, registering 8 all-time top 10 marks despite being asked to run as a pack for well over the first mile of the race. This strategy probably prevented Peter Schlachte from breaking his own course record as the pack crossed the mile mark in times north of 5:30, but even with the backhill in his way (where he was still running with the pack), he ran 4:40 the rest of the way to finish in 10:10 and win the race by a full 20 seconds over Andy Buck. Andy's 10:30 was enough to net him the #9 time all-time, with Dylan Dantzig and Nick Roskopf coming in 3-4 in 10:37, which will leave them tied for the #10 time ever on the course. No longer qualifying for the list are Tim Riddle, who ran 10:44 in 2006 and Forrest Hansen, who ran 10:41 in 2007.
On the girls' side, despite the pack running strategy, freshman Kaitlin Cartwright became just the second Amador Don to break 12:00 on the course, stopping the clock at 11:55. Smita Nalluri showed off her strong summer, moving up from #7 to #3 on the all-time list, running a time of 12:07. Junior Kayla Schroeder made an impressive debut for the Dons, as her #8 mark of 12:24 was a huge improvement from where she ended the track season. Just behind her in the #9 position was sophomore Karly Laffer at 12:28. Although Jennifer D'Addabbo ran 20 seconds faster than last year, finishing in 12:34, it was only good enough to keep her at #10 on the all-time list.
No longer qualifying for the all-time list are Stephanie Duret, who ran 12:49 last season, Paige Lommerin, who ran 12:45 in 2011, and Nina Razavi, who ran 12:44 in 2012.
