Running USA, RacePartner to Study Millennial Running Trends Nearly 42 million Americans are considered runners today, with 25- to 34-year-olds representing the large st age group.* Will these fitness-conscious Millennials follow in their forerunners' footsteps and drop out of the race at 35? Or are they already defining a watershed time in the running industry? Running USA and RacePartner are conducting a research study to find out why so many Millennials (born 1980-2000) get involved in running, and what organized running events can do to keep them interested and engaged. "Research and data are strong building blocks of Running USA. We are excited to work with Race Partner to learn more about the impact this important generation might have on our sport," said Rich Harshbarger, CEO of Running USA. "Young adults today have grown up with fitness and technology as part of their daily lives," said Rob Anderson, founding partner of RacePartner, a leader in endurance event registration. "We want to learn insights to inform the industry on how to design events to keep these runners coming back even when they start to have careers and families." The Millennial Running Study will be released in 2016. "NYRR is a proud partner of the Armory and is once again excited to support this wonderful New York City time-honored track and field tradition," said Wittenberg. "The NYRR Wanamaker Mile is renowned for its history of great athletes and memorable races. Bernard is one of the most distinguished runners in American history, the master of the NYRR Wanamaker Mile, and a New Yorker at heart. We also welcome home Mary to the iconic track that launched her early career success and now has her poised to become one of America's great track and field stars.
