Bears Complete First Full Day of Pac-12s
Cal Men End Day Tied For 8th; Women Sit In 11th
SEATTLE --- The final weekend of the 2016 Pac-12 Championships kicked off Saturday morning at Husky Track on the campus of the University of Washington with California track & field's full complement of student-athletes in attendance.
The Golden Bears enter Sunday's final day of events tied for eighth place on the men's side and 11th place on the women's.
On the men's side, Cal competed in seven prelims and will have a Bear in five Sunday finals (100 Meters, 200 Meters, 110 Meter Hurdles, 400 Meter Hurdles, 4x100 Meter Relay). It its five finals, Cal managed to score in each one, highlighted by Isaac Dan's second place performance in the hammer throw to begin the day (208-3.00). Peter Simon's strong effort in the shot put (3rd place) netted Cal its second-most points in any event (six points) and solidified an excellent day by the Golden Bear throwers. The top competitor in the prelim events was Ashtyn Davis, who finshed second in the 110 Meter Hurdles and will race on Sunday after his victory in heat two of the event.
Isabella Marten paced the women's team as the only Bear to score in one of Cal's four finals. Marten took sixth place in the Long Jump while setting a new overall/outdoor PR in the process (19-8.25). The best showings in the women's eight prelims was an eighth place performance in the 4x100 Meter Relay (Scholis/Smith/Robertson/Williams) that qualified the quartet for the event final and a ninth place effort by Jordyn Colter in the 800 Meters that was only .17 away from eighth place.
