Qualifying for Post Season Meets from the HDN Prelims Meet
The HDN prelims meet qualifies athletes to 3 different post season meets that are independent of each other, and it can be difficult to keep track of it all, so I will try to clear it up here.
HDN Finals: The entire HDN league (small schools and big schools) are trying to qualify to the HDN Finals next week on May 14th. In order for an athlete to qualify to the HDN Finals they must place in the top 8 of their event.
Class A Meet (small schools): Southern Trinity, South Fork, Hoopa, Castle Rock, NPA, Ferndale, and St. Bernard's qualify to this meet. Small school athletes must place in the top 4 in their event among large school athletes at the prelims meet in order to qualify onto the Class A Meet. The top 2 relay teams in both relays also qualify.
Redwood Empire Area Meet (large schools): DN, Mack, Arcata, Eureka, and Fortuna qualify to this meet. Large school athletes must place in the top 6 in their event among large school athletes at the prelims meet in order to qualify onto the R.E.A. Meet. We also qualify 6 relay teams meaning that all relay team qualify on so long as they finish the race.
Field Events
- Order of field events: Girls: HJ, PV, Shot, LJ. Boys: TJ & Discus
- Field event judges will maintain the rules of the event more strictly to better prepare athletes for post season expectations.
Running Events
- In running events there will only be a Varsity Boys and a Varsity Girls division at this meet. Order in all events will go Girls first, then Boys. The 3200 will be run seperate, no combining of divisions.
- There will be no set start time for events until the HDN Finals. At league meets and prelims we will use a rolling start.
