SHANGHAI -- U.S. athletes stole the show Saturday in Shanghai with season best wins by Justin Gatlin and Michael Tinsley, a pole vault victory from Sam Kendricks, and best in shot from Kurt Roberts.

Gatlin (Orlando, Florida) ran 9.94 for a season best and the win in the 100 meters, which also featured American Mike Rodgers (Round Rock, Texas) finishing third in 10.10 and Isiah Young (Oxford, Miss) in fifth at 10.22.

Kendricks (Oxford, Mississippi) matched and surpassed his pole vault personal best as third time was the charm on two occasions. He missed twice before clearing 5.83/19-1.5, and it became a two-man battle of Kendricks against Renauld Lavillenie of France at 5.88m/19-3.5. Michael Tinsley (Round Rock, Texas) won the 400m hurdles, clocking 48.90 for his fastest finish in 2016.

Kurt Roberts (Ashland, Ohio) tossed 21.40m/70-2.5 for a season best and the shot put victory. Compatriot Joe Kovacs (Nazareth, Pennsylvania) placed third after throwing 20.82m/68-3.75.
