(Nov. 17, 2013) - Punishing early paces led to blistering fast times, as a world b est and an American record were set Sunday morning in historic Alexandria, Virginia at the .US National Road Racing Championships. The .US National Road Racing Championships are the eleventh and final stop on the USA Running Circuit. In the women's race, Olympians Molly Huddle (Providence, R.I.) and Shalane Flanagan (Portland, Ore.) made it a two-person race from the opening mile, setting a quick early pace, which saw the two clear the field in the first mile, as they hit the split in 5:04, leading by 11 seconds. From there their lead expanded, as Flanagan drove the pace, hitting the 5K split in 15:42 with Huddle hanging on and the rest of the field 40 seconds back. Huddle continued to push over the final mile of the race, building on her lead and ultimately crossing the finish line victoriously in a new world best and American record time of 37:50. Flanagan hung on for second place, finishing in 37:58. On the men's side, Aaron Braun (Ft. Collins, Colo.) set the tone early, grabbing the lead, something he would not relinquish the entire 12K distance. Braun's early tempo laid waste to the rest of the field over the final 2K, as he pulled away stride by stride, cruising home to a dominating win in 34:28. His first race on U.S. soil was the 20th running of the GORE-TEX ® Philadelphia Marathon. On a brisk fall day with perfect racing conditions, a crowd of more than 60,000 that lined the race course to cheer on the field of 30,000 registered participants. Mekuriya was victorious in the men's race in two hours, 17 minutes, 35 seconds. In the women's marathon,Russian runner Irina Alexandrova, 33, who trains in Kentucky, won 2:39:06 to collect $3,500. Runner-up Tezeta Dengersa, 33, clocked 2:40:13 to earn the second place purse of $2,000. The Philadelphia Half Marathon and Rothman Institute 8K resulted in shattered course records and repeats. (Nov. 16, 2013) - With a time of 2 hours, 15 minutes, 9 seconds, Kenya 's Sammy Too, 24, won the 2013 Anthem Richmond Marathon, taking home $3,000 in prize money - $2,500 for the first place finish and an additional bonus of $500 for finishing under two hours and twenty minutes. Desta Girma Tadesse, a 26-year-old Ethiopian, was the first female to cross the finish line, clocking 2:37:55. In the sixth running of the American Family Fitness Half Marathon, a new course record was set in both the men's and women's divisions. Twenty-eight-year-old Kimutai Cheruiyot of Kenya crossed the finish line with a time of 1:02:59, besting the previous course record set by Mengstu Nebsi in 2012 by 22 seconds. Read the rest of the story on RunningUSA.org Wardian Wins Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio, Heads to Second Start Line SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Nov. 17, 2013) - The first half of an epic attempt ended well f or 39-year-old Michael Wardian, who won the 2013 Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon in 2 hours, 31 minutes and 19 seconds. After crossing the finish line, Wardian headed straight to the airport, bound for a second marathon attempt at Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas on Sunday evening. "I felt really comfortable out there so I hope that bodes well for lacing up again tonight," he said. "That's what it's all about, just trying to get out there and see if you can do a little more than you think you can and hopefully inspiring people to push themselves." In the women's marathon, Jena Kincaid, a 25-year-old teacher from Austin, Texas, took the title in 3:07:41. Jennifer Chaudoir finished second in 3:09:44. The Hartford Marathon Foundation donated its resources to produce the Sandy Hook Run for the Families and enlisted support of longtime business, community and civic partners in honoring the memories of victims and supporting all of those affected by the tragedy in Newtown. Suver Takes 3rd In USA Running Circuit; Nelson Takes 5th with .US 12k Championship 7th-place


(Colorado Springs, CO) - With triple points going to Sunday's .US National Road Racing Championship winner, Mattie Suver (adidas/BRC) was not able to hold onto her lead in the 2013 USA Running Circuit. Suver, who posted her lowest finish over the seven US championships she competed in after finishing as third American at the New York City Marathon just two weeks ago, finished 3rd overall in the series winning $2,500 and a total of $15,250 over the course of the circuit. .US 12k champion Molly Huddle and Shalane Flanagan bolted to the title and runner-up spot in only their second races on the circuit.


Brianne Nelson's (adidas/BRC) 7th-place in the 12k propelled her to 5th place in the series, with a total of $7,300, while teammate Wendy Thomas was 15th finishing 14th on the circuit with $6,300. Alisha Williams (adidas/BRC), who's only race on the series was her runner-up at the US 15k, finished in 24th-place with $5,000.

Kanuho & Birdsong Win Flatiron XC Colorado Club Championships;
Petersson Third At Big Sur Half Marathon


(Colorado Springs, CO) - Despite a mid-race 10-second lead established by eventual runner-up Addy Bracy, Rochelle Kanuho (adidas/BRC), with the help of teammate Brittni Hutton, was able to close the gap and out kick Bracy for the title of the Flatiron XC Colorado Club Championships held Sunday in Harlow Platt Park in Boulder, CO. Hutton, who set the blistering pace for the opening mile of the challenging 4k course, was herself out kicked at the line taking 4th-place overall. Kanuho earned $150 for her efforts, along with a pumpkin pie. Despite the pair's performance, adidas/Boulder Running Company was only able to finish second in team scoring.


In the men's race, Brandon Birdsong (adidas/BRC) and Anthony Mallory made it a two-man race by pulling away from the field on the second of the three-loop 6k course. Birdsong was able to pull away even more so over the last while, while Mallory easily held on for second. The duo picked up $150 and $100 for their efforts. Birdsong, along with Mack McLain's 6th-place, led adidas/Boulder Running Company to the team title.
